The role involves expanding a Django-based platform, migrating legacy web functionality into a React and TypeScript ecosystem, supporting web and mobile experiences, and developing backend infrastructure, APIs, databases, reporting tools, integrations, and administrative workflows. The engineer will work with technologies such as Django, React, React Native, AWS, PostgreSQL, Firebase, MongoDB, and modern security tools.
A major focus will be building the technical foundation for AI-powered features, including retrieval, workflow and tool integration, structured outputs, guardrails, evaluation, observability, and human escalation. Additional responsibilities include implementing automated testing, CI/CD practices, analytics, monitoring, role-based access, encryption, privacy controls, and compliance measures related to FERPA and COPPA.
Applicants should have 5+ years of fullstack development experience, strong backend and cloud architecture knowledge, production experience with React and TypeScript, and familiarity with application modernization, analytics, DevOps, and AI or LLM integrations. Startup, EdTech, college admissions, youth-focused platforms, and event-driven architecture experience are valuable advantages.
The position is fully remote and offers $50,000–$54,000 annually, along with a monthly compensation structure, possible equity participation, meaningful mission-driven work, autonomy, and the opportunity to help shape the company’s engineering direction before launch.
