Teal Media is hiring a Senior WordPress Backend Developer to lead the technical development of custom digital projects for mission-driven organizations. The role combines hands-on WordPress/PHP development, technical leadership, client communication, and team mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the backend architecture and development of custom websites and digital platforms.
- Develop and maintain WordPress themes, plugins, integrations, and related systems.
- Serve as the primary technical lead for new projects and ongoing client support.
- Turn complex or unclear client requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.
- Communicate technical recommendations and tradeoffs clearly with clients.
- Identify potential technical risks and recommend alternatives when appropriate.
- Mentor developers through code reviews, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
- Support technical hiring and contribute to a collaborative, accountable team environment.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience working with WordPress and PHP-based technologies.
- Deep knowledge of WordPress architecture, custom themes, plugins, and integrations.
- Strong PHP and modern backend development skills.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows.
- Previous agency or consulting experience managing multiple projects and priorities.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, client-management, and technical leadership abilities.
Position Details
- Work arrangement: Remote, U.S.
- Salary: $115,000–$135,000, based on experience and location.
